The course is designed to enable Radiation Protection Supervisors, Radiation Protection Officers and other Staff, to be aware of the hazards from radioactive sources; unsealed sources and sealed sources and to provide the knowledge of how to protect themselves and others. Typical controls to prevent radiation accidents and to keep exposure ‘As Low As Reasonably Practicable’ (ALARP) are explored. The controls may be physical or procedural. We show the importance of following Local Rules / Standard Operating Procedures.
There will be a demonstration of the correct handling and use of radioactive sources, showing potential doses of incorrect handling. Monitoring; inspection and leak testing of sources will also be demonstrated. We cannot escape the law and the legal requirement to comply with IRR17, EPR16 and other legislation is covered. Information, instruction and training, itself, is a requirement of IRR17 and a certificate of attendance is issued for delegates and schools.
The course is interactive and most delegates mention how they enjoy the course.
