The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge recently moved to a new premises leaving a 50 year building to be decommissioned and returned back to a clean radiological, chemical, biological, equipment and furniture free situation.
Aurora worked tirelessly to carry out radiological monitoring, surveying, sampling and subsequent decommissioning. I would have no hesitation in recommending Aurora’s Radiological & Decommissioning Team for laboratories requiring a similar service.

In addition to the RPA service provided to us by Aurora, we have also utilised their Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA), Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) and Radiation Protection Training services and have been delighted with the quality of the services provided.

The appointed RPAs have essentially become an integral part of the radiation protection framework at Able and are often required to assist Able staff in dealing with technically challenging situations. We have found that the RPAs have an excellent knowledge of the legal requirements, especially in relation to that which Enforcing Authorities require for compliance. They have often taken the lead to ensure that corrective actions are completed on time and in the most efficient manner. The attention to detail of the RPAs is also appreciated by Able.

We have recently utilised Aurora in providing radiation protection training courses to our clients. Our clients have often commented on how impressed they have been with the Aurora team, both technically and personally, during the courses, such that Aurora has provided the same high level of service we require from our own staff when dealing with clients.

Aurora Health Physics provided support to the University of Nottingham during a period between appointments. The experience and knowledge of Aurora, and the ability to provide a person to act as a point of contact and support ‘on the ground’ at the University for several months was invaluable. Aurora have provided support to the University in an RPA / RWA capacity for a while - but the ability to provide a member of staff two days a week was vital. Joel quickly became a member of the Health and Safety team, and during the months he was acting RPO for the University provided competent, pragmatic, and succinct radiation safety advice on a complex range of radiation topics.

The Ionising and Non-Ionising Radiation Training by Aurora was an excellent course and I would recommend attending it. The course was well paced and was structured to include participants of all levels. There were plenty of opportunities to network, which is a bonus when you are new to this area.

Those presenting were able to clearly explain legislative requirements and I acquired a lot of new knowledge, particularly about lasers and electromagnetic fields.
